Up to £100,000 of legal cover included with every policy
Our legal cover is a standard feature in our taxi insurance policies. If you’re ever involved in an accident that wasn’t your fault, it can help you recover any out-of-pocket expenses.
Cover for all drivers
Whether you’re just starting out as a taxi driver or you’ve got decades of experience behind you, we can help you find the right cover. We’re also able to insure drivers with motoring and criminal convictions.
Insurance for all types of vehicles
We can cover all types of vehicles, including EVs, minibuses and MPVs, as well as modified vehicles, such as those that have been fitted with wheelchair ramps, straps and clamps.
Public liability cover up to £10 million
This protects against passenger claims for injuries or losses they sustain while using your services. We offer two tiers of public liability cover: £5million worth of cover, which costs £71.46, or £10 million worth of cover for £84.
Multiple drivers can be covered
Our flexible policies can include cover for multiple drivers if required. If you run a taxi company, we can cover all your drivers on the policy. This ensures that whoever’s driving the vehicle is covered. Named drivers can also be added to policies for independent taxi drivers if required.
Wide range of optional extras available
Our flexible cover can include a wide range of optional extras. This includes keycare, so if you misplace your keys, we can cover locksmith expenses, replacement locks and keys, car immobiliser replacement costs, car hire costs and transport costs if you’re stranded. We also offer excess protection. This means that if you need to make a claim, we can pay back the cost of your excesses throughout the year.
Frequently asked questions
What is taxi insurance?
Taxi insurance is a type of cover specifically for public and private hire vehicles. If you drive a vehicle for a living, it’s a legal requirement that you take out the right insurance.
If you’re a taxi driver in London, you might be more familiar with the term Public Carriage Office (PCO) insurance.
What’s the difference between public and private hire?
Public hire vehicles include black cabs and are vehicles that you do not need to pre-book. Instead, you can flag them down on the road when you need one. Private hire vehicles, such as Ubers and minicabs, must be booked in advance.
Which types of taxis can you cover?
We can cover both private hire vehicles, i.e. taxis that you have to pre-book, and public hire cabs, i.e. taxis that you can hail without pre-booking, like London’s black cabs.
Does taxi insurance cover passengers?
When you take out our public liability cover alongside your policy, this includes cover for any passengers that get injured while travelling in your vehicle or entering and exiting it.
How much is taxi insurance?
The cost of your taxi insurance depends on a number of factors, including the type of vehicle you own, your driving history and where you typically drive. If, for instance, it’s your first year of driving a taxi, you might find that your premium is more expensive than those with more experience.

How can I get affordable cab insurance?
There are a number of ways you can reduce your premium. This includes:
- Add extra security: a dash cam can help verify any claims you make, while a Thatcham-approved alarm system can help prevent your vehicle from being stolen.
- Gain extra driving qualifications: if you’re new to driving, passing additional driving qualifications such as IAMRoadsmart can help you improve your driving skills and reduce your premium.
- Build up your no claims bonus: having a claims-free driving history is one of the best ways to reduce your premium.
- Pay yearly: you’re more likely to pay less when you pay for your insurance upfront rather than throughout the year
