This will vary from policy to policy. You should check your policy booklet to make sure you’re insured to drive in the Republic of Ireland. A recent new ruling means that you’ll no longer have to carry a green card with you when you travel in the Republic of Ireland, but you’ll still need to make sure your insurance covers you on your travels.

Will I need an International Driving Permit (IDP)?

As long as you hold a driving licence from NI or the UK, you won’t need to take an IDP with you when you travel in the Republic of Ireland. You’ll need to bring your driving licence along with you to prove that you can travel freely in the Republic though.

GB and UK car stickers

The GB car sticker has recently been replaced by the UK car sticker. This came into effect on 28th September.

According to NI Direct, you aren’t required to display a car sticker when travelling in the Republic of Ireland.
