The UK’s best campervan holiday destinations

Car Insurance from just £125 per year

With the opening of UK campsites on July 4 and the uncertainty of international travel, thousands of Britons will be opting for staycations this year, but it begs the questions where is the best place to visit in the UK?

Whether you’re cruising in a chrome-plated RV or sputtering along in a vintage VW, nothing beats a UK staycation holiday via campervan. So we’ve put together our list of the best places to visit:

Scotland’s North Coast 500

Billed as Scotland’s Route 66, the North Coast 500 takes you on a journey through the beautiful Highlands. This 516-mile route takes you through castles ruins, fishing towns and little known distilleries. Filled with plenty of campsites through the route, the road itself is home to the mountain pass of Bealach na Bà and John o’ Groats, the most northerly point in mainland Britain. Most campers will opt to start and end their trip in the Highlands’ largest city Inverness.

England’s south coast

England’s south coasts character-filled shoreline with pretty villages, a vibrant towns and lots of sweeping white cliffs (including those famous ones in Dover) is one of the top destinations to visit this summer in your campervan.

We’d recommend starting on the Kent coastline and making your way across to the sandy beaches of Weymouth over the course of a minimum ten day period, but don’t be surprised if your journey lasts longer than you planned due to the amount of attractions.

You’ll travel through the sunniest place in the UK, Eastbourne, Brighton, the South Downs, Worthing and the stunning beaches in Bournemouth and Weymouth.

Lake District

The Lake District, home to some of the most scenic walks and mountain hikes in Britain, and it’s also the home of Peter Rabbit creator Beatrix Potter. Spend time cruising up and down Derwentwater, or take a drive to nearby Helvellyn and hike one of the most iconic climbs in the UK.

If you’re in a camper, you can either choose to make one place your base and go out on day trips or take a drive around the many different lakes and find a different place to park every night.

Cornwall

Cornwall is considered the go to holiday destination in the UK and when there’s a heat wave the Celtic Sea starts to feel more like the Mediterranean, you could be forgiven for thinking that you’re in mainland Europe!

From sandy beaches and coastal views, to its idyllic towns of Penzance, Newquay, St. Ives and Falmouth, the UK’s surfing capital has a whole range of activities and sites to see.

The Lizard Peninsula

Yes, The Lizard Peninsula is a real place and yes it does go under the radar when holidaymakers are choosing their destinations.

The largest nature reserve in the south west and arguably the best location in the country for spotting wildlife in a natural environment. If you love nature you’ll be amazed by the sheer numbers of rare plants and animals you’ll see.

On top of its nature, you’ll be able to take in breathtaking views from cliffside walks looking out onto the ocean, explore mini coves and woodland areas where you’ll more than likely spot a few lizards on your travels.

Keep your camper safe

Make sure you keep your campervan in as secure a location as possible when it’s not in use. A garage is best as it can reduce exposure to the camper’s worst enemy: damp. If you don’t have access to a garage, keeping it on the driveway under a cover is the second-best option.
